Group of five Western Pennsylvania Funeral Directors’ Convention booklets 1925-1930.
Here is a group of five booklets, that were issued for the annual conventions of the Western Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, from 1925 to 1930 (we don’t have the 1929 booklet). This group of program booklets, show the quick evolution going on at this time, at the Conneaut Lake resort area. The 1925 convention’s headquarters, was listed as the “New Conneaut Lake Hotel”. Local executive committee members included: Wm. E. Byham, Meadville, Pa. and Lawrence S McCabe, Cochranton, Pa. The 1926 booklet lists the convention’s headquarters as the Conneaut Lake Hotel. “All Sessions of the Convention will be held in the Crystal Room of Hotel Conneaut.” The 1927 booklet lists their forty-sixth convention being at the “Hotel Conneaut, Conneaut Lake Park, Pennsylvania”. They had Community Singing led by Prof. Lee Hess Barnes, of Pennsylvania College of Music, Meadville, Pa. There is a picture of the inside of the Conneaut Lake Dance Pavilion, and a picture of the outside of the Convention Exhibit Hall. It also says to: “Journey to ORIENTAL GARDENS HOTEL CONNEAUT for more DANCING AND CABARET ENTERTAINMENT AND RETIRE QUIETLY.” The 1928 booklet, lists the convention at Conneaut Lake Park, Pa. The front cover, has a picture of a large group of people outside, with the lake in the background. It mentions the Crystal Room, the Oriental Room, and the ladies being entertained with cards on the porch of Hotel Conneaut (with prizes). The 1930 booklet says that it is held at Conneaut Lake Park. The schedule on Wednesday includes: 6:30 Banquet and Entertainment, Hotel Conneaut; 8:30 to 9:30 visit displays and find lucky number for gifts offered by the many firms; 9:30 to 11:30 Dancing and Entertainment in the Crystal Room; 11:30 to ???? Dancing and Cabaret Entertainment in the Crystal Room of Hotel Conneaut. The Wednesday Ladies Entertainment has 12:30 “Luncheon and cards at Hotel Oakland, East Side of Conneaut Lake. Boat leaves at 12:30. Take a trip around the Lake.”

From Shaw’s Landing, Crawford County, Pa. we have two invoices. The 1871 invoice on top, says: Bought of J. Cleve Eastman, Manufacturer of Pennichuck Standard Illuminating and Lubricating Oils. He apparently had partners (G.E. Young and J. T. Young) in the bottom 1873 invoice. It says: Bought of Pennichuck Oil Co., Manufacturers of Pennichuck Illuminating and Lubricating Oils.
