Meadville Post Cards

Whenever the card has a postmark, I will put that date in the caption. Every post card listed on this website has the two-word POST CARD printed on the back side. Since these are vintage cards, I used the vintage designation post card, instead of the modern terminology postcard. At the bottom of this page, we also have some government issued Postal Cards. Saegertown, Pa. post cards, are listed on the Saegertown Post Cards Page. Other local towns’ post cards, are listed on the More Local Post Cards Page.

In the late 1790’s, the founder of Meadville, David Mead, built his second house in Meadville. The first house was a log cabin. This second house, on Randolph Street, was built in the style of a farmhouse, and later had a lean-to addition added on one end. The first two post cards immediately below, show this house (postmarked 1908 and 1909). After David Mead’s death, the house was sold, and was held by other various owners, but not very well maintained for many years. The DeArment family, acquired the property, and in 1908, the original house was replaced with a Classical Revival style mansion. They incorporated a few items from the original house, into this new mansion. The third post card in the center immediately below, shows this Classical-Revival style mansion.
